A Church On the Grow For God!
Club FAQsWhat does a Typical Night look like?
Each night is never the same, but generally the night is broken down into three segments:
The three main parts of the evening are Game Time, Handbook Time and Council Time.
How do we sign up?
There is a registration form and medical release that needs to be signed by the parents and returned with the child when he/she comes to Awana on Wednesday evening. The Forms for yourself or a friend may be obtained from the Secretary at Check-In or click here Registration Forms to print one out.
How much will it cost?
We ask that all clubbers pay a Registration fee of $25 per clubber per year. We do offer a discount for families with more than one child enrolling and have a maximum fee of $75 per family.
We ask that you pay the full amount of the Registration fee at the beginning of the year, if possible. The registration fee helps alleviate some of the Club expenses and is used to provide uniforms, handbooks, awards earned and incentives for the clubbers throughout the year.
Please note: We want all clubbers to be able to have the books and uniforms. If the cost of these would impose a financial hardship on your family, call the Awana Commander or talk to any of the Directors. Financial help is available.
Is AWANA Safe?
YES! Each Leader in AWANA is screened, interviewed and approved as part of our Child Protection Program. Special precautions are taken throughout the year to ensure children are secure and safe throughout the night within our Church.
To ensure your child’s safety, the following policies will apply:
**Children should be escorted to their club assigned classroom for the opening ceremonies, and picked up at 8:15 pm from their club rooms by a parent or authorized adult listed on the registration form.
**No child will be permitted to leave any part of the club meeting without leader supervision and/or permission. This includes bathroom breaks, trips to the water fountain, etc.
How can I help?
Volunteers are always welcome and always needed for men, women, and teens who feel that God wants to use them to help reach children and teens with the Gospel of Christ and disciple them to follow Him. If you are interested in volunteering to help at Awana, talk to Commander Amy Atchison at 757-499-3536 or send an email to commander@vbfwbcawana.org
What to Wear
All clubbers must wear their club uniform and sneakers. A clubber must be in uniform to receive uniform awards. For their safety, if a child is not wearing appropriate footwear and clothing they will not be allowed to participate in game time.
Awana Buck$ & Store Night
We will hold three AWANA store nights during the year. Children will have the opportunity to choose items based on the number of AWANA Buck$ that they have earned during the club meetings. Buck$ are awarded for many things such as club attendance, Sunday School attendance, wearing their uniform, bringing their Bible & handbook, completing handbook sections, game time points and bringing first-time visitors.
Discipline Policy
At times during club meetings we will have children that will misbehave. We utilize two different “count methods” for discipline.
Five-count
This method is used to control a group’s behavior. To bring order to the group a leader will raise his/her hand and begin counting to five. When the group hears the count begin they should become quiet and await further instructions.
Three-count
This method is used to correct an individual’s behavior. If a child misbehaves the leader will warn the child to stop whatever he/she is doing. If the child continues with the behavior the leader will give a “1” count. The leader will discuss the problem with the child to ensure that he/she understands why the behavior is inappropriate. If the child continues to misbehave the leader will give him/her a “2” count and take them to their club director to discuss the situation. If the child still continues to misbehave a “3” count will be given, the child will be taken to the Commander and the parent/guardian will be notified. Depending on the nature of the behavior the child may be required to sit out during game time, or in extreme cases may be asked not to return to AWANA.
